It is well known that being a mom is not only a boundless happiness, but also a hard non-stop work.

Women who fully committed to family and raising children at some stage of their lives often find themselves in social isolation later on. It is not surprising that successful career is perceived as unachievable. Over time, professional skills become outdated and employers are unwilling to hire young mothers with a gap in a CV. But the problems do not stop here!

Lack of regular income and self-actualization have a negative impact on women’s psychological condition. Self-esteem drops down; nothing is left from former self-confidence. “I feel completely lost, – shares Anna, a mother of three kids. – I simply cannot imagine which direction to pursue after so many years at home.”

Fortunately, there is a cross-border project “ActiveMoms”, which is jointly implemented by three partners: Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies and Association “Līdere” from Latvia and TTK University of Applied Sciences from Estonia.

The goal of “ActiveMoms” project is to provide extensive support to unemployed women with pre-school-age children, who belong to Latvia’s and Estonia’s largest ethnic minorities, such as the Russians, Belarusians and Ukrainians.

We help mothers see, assess and realize their potential by landing a decently paid job they would enjoy or by launching and developing own prosperous business. We offer free mentoring services and volunteering opportunities in organizations of their choice, as well as create platforms for informal communication, which allows finding friends, like-minded people and cooperation partners.

 We regularly conduct events of the following three types:

   Employment forums;
   Entrepreneurship Days "Running own business is an option!";
   Networking events with a focus on entrepreneurship “Turn a simple activity into a business!”

During 2.5 years, around 460 women will benefit from “ActiveMoms” project. Apart from that, we aim to increase public awareness of problems and difficulties young moms have to face and transfer our knowledge and experience to all interested parties.

“ActiveMoms” project is co-financed by the European Union in the framework of the Central Baltic Programme 2014-2020 (www.centralbaltic.eu).

Project duration is 29 months (from August 2019 until December 2021).

Project budget is 239 574.00 EUR; co-financing of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) is 189 263.46 EUR.
